Description
about the winery:
Jean-Paul Labaille tenaciously continues to lead the work of his father-in-law Claude Thomas , one of the great interpreters of Sancerre together with Cotat and Vatan (the so-called “trois Rois Mages”). Jean-Paul is self-taught: he was not born a winemaker, but he humbly learned early and when the time came he replaced Claude.
The vineyard park is among the most important in Chavignol , with vineyards in positions of great prestige, and old vines. A major renovation of the cellar has been completed in recent years. If it is true that the new premises do not have the charm of the old ones, at the same time it must be said that order and cleanliness have greatly influenced the quality of the final product. At the same time the old barrels were abandoned, but the processes and the production process have remained unchanged both in the vineyard and in the cellar, where we find cement and steel tanks, and non-new wooden barrels, so that they do not mark the wine too much.
There are three house cuvées: L’Autentique which best represents the characteristics of the Sauvignon grape variety, Les Monts Damnès , more mineral, brings out the characteristics of the terroir in all their splendor, while La Fleur de Galifard, which is born on the Grand Côte from very old vines, over seventy years old, is harvested very late, for a more structured and mature wine.
